12" Wooden Ruler made in U.S.A. of American-grown basswood.
This ruler celebrates important players on the American side before, during and shortly after the Revolutionary War in which the English colonies on the East Coast of North America gained their independence. It does not mention King George III or any members of the British military, nor does it mention any colonists who were sympathetic to the British cause. Patriots were colonists who rejected British rule and declared the United States of America as an independent nation in July 1776.
For each individual on the ruler we have listed their birth and death years, if known, as well as their contribution to the revolutionary cause. The order is by year of birth.
The “head” needs no introduction. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) was a spokesman in London for several of the colonies and later United States ambassador to France. A true Renaissance man, he was also an author, inventor, political theorist, and printer.
